AN ELLEN WELLS PAINTING

Here is one of my Mom's paintings.  She did some in oil but this one is acrylic. Such a talented woman, she was a seamstress, as well, and made most of my clothes while I was growing up.

FALLEN BLOSSOMS

Still standing!!

Before the blooming began it sat faithfully beside my gate for probably 20 years.       How sad to think that now it will die.

THE CENTURY PLANT BLOOMS

At first bloom it was all clusters of fat coral colored pods which have opened to the yellow pom-poms. I'm guessing but I think it grew to about 12 feet tall. And the blossoms stop here between a third and half way down.

VIEWPOINT

Century Plant in Winter - Top view

Imagine this native desert plant surviving enough cold Colorado winters to culminate in the natural blooming process.  Reference last post.

A Century Plant in the blooming process.  I took some pictures when it just started to grow, but alas, I am unable to retrieve them.  Will post the blooms later.                   Til next time!!

THE PAST YEAR

Here are some of the new candles I made during the year:

The large mushrooms weigh in at an impressive 2
pounds, the balls and hearts about a pound and the small ones from 2 ounces to a half pound.

Finish work can be excruciating or fun, but satisfying either way.

I use a variety of items in the process, such as beads, stickers, broken jewelry, ribbon, silk flowers to name a few.

Here, the Indian totem and the Hobo boot -
tip the scale  at nearly 3 pounds each.  I use mostly
acrylic paint but melted crayons are good also.

Front and back of the Indian are the same and I improvised the sides with sunset photos and glitter.
I spent way too much time on it (had to be perfect, you know.)  It was a gift.  Maybe I'll make another one someday.

I made alien heads in several other colors but this is
the only one I painted the face.  The butterfly wings
are loose and it appears to have just landed on the
ball. An unintentional bonus.
