BACK IN KANSAS

When my family moved from Kansas to Colorado, my sister and I were small children.  Our conversations for some time were peppered with the phrase 'back in Kansas'.  With that in mind and given the extended drought conditions in this area this writing hit home:

            Memo to:  The Lord
        Date:        February, 1981
        Re:           Kansas Weather

         Have you noticed, Lord?
I hate to mention it again,
         But we need rain.
The ground is baked and dry -
         Even cracked in parts -
And each day brings a cloudless sky.

And while I'm at it, Lord,
         It's unseasonably warm.
         It's not yet March,
But all the buds are great
And I'm afraid a sudden frost
Will blight the life at springtime's gate.

         I'm just your servant, Lord,
And you're in charge, of course.
         I only wondered
If you'd heard our point of view?
But now I've had my say
So, Lord, I'll leave our cares to you.
