DEATH OF A DREAM
Sitting alone on the bank of a stream
My thoughts stumble onto a long ago dream
While moonlight slips quietly down through a tree
And sparkles on water flowing by me.
Then casting aside all thoughts of today
I ponder what happened along the way
Why was the dream so shuttled about
Packed and unpacked, then at last left out.
Years, like the water, have swiftly passed by
Leaving the dream, unfulfilled, to lie
Dead in the graveyard where dreams depart
Sitting alone on the bank of a stream
My thoughts stumble onto a long ago dream
While moonlight slips quietly down through a tree
And sparkles on water flowing by me.
Then casting aside all thoughts of today
I ponder what happened along the way
Why was the dream so shuttled about
Packed and unpacked, then at last left out.
Years, like the water, have swiftly passed by
Leaving the dream, unfulfilled, to lie
Dead in the graveyard where dreams depart
Awaiting rebirth in a youthful heart.
